Daylight saving changes shift session hours (Tehran time).
On bank holidays the affected session is less liquid, with a higher chance of unusual moves and wider spreads.
The forex market runs 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, but trading volume isn't the same at every hour. Trading happens across four major financial centers (Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York), and each center's business hours are called a trading session.
The trading week opens on Sunday at 17:00 New York time and closes on Friday at the same time. Session hours in your local time shift whenever Europe, the US or Australia change their clocks; this tool calculates those changes automatically.
Liquidity and volatility are usually highest when sessions overlap, especially the London and New York overlap, when spreads are tighter and price moves are larger.
Scalpers and day traders usually prefer the London and New York overlap; range strategies tend to work better in the Asian session.
Major US data is usually released early in the New York session and can cause price spikes and slippage.
Around 17:00 New York time liquidity drops and spreads widen; avoid opening new trades or using very tight stops then.
The market is closed on weekends and may open Monday with a gap; check your plan's rules before holding trades over the weekend.
Hours are based on the common business hours of each financial center. Major public holidays in the US, UK, Australia and Japan are included, but holidays in other countries and brokers' reduced trading hours are not. Check each instrument's exact trading hours at your broker.
